What are the best ways to prevent Alzheimer’s disease from developing?
Alzheimer’s disease treatment is challenging. To this date, there’s no single medication that could really cure this problem.
However, there are ways you can do to prevent Alzheimer’s disease from happening. A recent study found that a daily intake of ibuprofen accompanied with a healthy diet can be effective in combatting Alzheimer’s.
Ibuprofen is a widely used anti-inflammatory drug that does not require doctor’s prescription.
The recent study found that, if this drug is combined with Mediterranean diet, could hinder the development of the disease.
But this strategy is more of a preventive measure than a cure. This means that you must start healthy practices before the disease develops.
This is because, in most cases, Alzheimer’s disease often discovered late. If the disease is already full-blown, it will be more difficult to treat.
Alzheimer’s disease onset is believed to be 10 years earlier before any symptom is noticeable.
The researchers used a simple saliva test of the participants. The amount of certain protein in the saliva predicts the development of Alzheimer’s.
Dr. Patrick McGeer explained the process:
“Knowing that the prevalence of clinical Alzheimer’s Disease commences at age 65, we recommend that people get tested ten years before, at age 55, when the onset of Alzheimer’s would typically begin.
If they exhibit elevated Abeta 42 levels then, that is the time to begin taking daily ibuprofen to ward off the disease.”
Abeta 42 is a type of protein found in the saliva. People with Alzheimer’s disease have a higher level of this protein.
People who begin taking ibuprofen and healthy diet earlier were able to avoid Alzheimer’s.
The authors strongly suggest that everyone should start consuming healthy foods. The following are the types of foods that you need to consume to remain mentally and physically healthy.
6 Ways To Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease
Your brain power deteriorates as you age. But you can do something to prevent it from happening. Here’s what you can do:
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables
Studies found that consumption of fruits and vegetables was associated with lower incidence of Alzheimer’s disease. The study was conducted on more than one thousand Japanese-Americans.
2. Eat more berries
Berries are rich in anthocyanosides, a chemical compound capable of preventing memory impairment from happening. The more berries you eat, the more you can maximize the benefits.
3. Eat more Omega-3 fatty acids
Fishes such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. A study found that constant consumption of omega-3 fatty acids is associated with lower rates of Alzheimer’s.
4. Drink wine
A glass of grape wine after dinner can be helpful. Grapes are rich in components that could protect the brain cells from any possible diseases.
5. Eat Mediterranean foods
One of the best ways to prevent Alzheimer’s disease is eating healthy foods. This pertains to the Mediterranean diet. Studies found that people who regularly consume Mediterranean foods have a lower rate of Alzheimer’s.
6. Develop a strong social support
It is found many times in several studies that social ties play important role in mental health. A strong social network helps prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease in later life.
