Here are the eight steps you can apply to successfully meditate.

1. Find a silent place.

Meditation requires a quiet place. A place where you can concentrate. It could be your room, your garage, or even in your basement. Any place that is free from noise.

2. Sit with your legs crossed on the floor.

Probably you’ve seen people doing meditation before. They have one common body position – sitting with their legs crossed on the floor. Do the same way.

3. Sit tall.

Sit straight and quietly. Imagine that you are leaning on a flat wall.

4. Relax your body.

Close your eyes and start feeling your body. Maybe you want to start at your feet, ankles up to your head. While doing this, you need to make it sure that you are relaxing your whole body. Let go of muscle tensions from your neck, tongue, and shoulders.

5. Be still.

Now that you are relaxed, start listening to the sound around you. Just be aware of your surrounding. But do not react, just listen quietly. Do not allow your mind to make any interpretation or analysis on the sound you hear. Just be aware.

6. Breathe deeply.

The next step of doing meditation is to focus on your breathing. Breathe quietly but deeply. Fill your lungs with air without force. Feel the sensation as the air passes you nose, throat, and chest while doing the whole inhale and exhale process.

7. Determine when to end the practice.

In meditation, there’s no specific limit as to how long you should engage in the process. But if you’re a beginner, you want to start at a shorter period of time. Maybe 5-10 minutes. But as you progress, you can increase the duration. You can use an alarm if you want to set a specific time.

8. Meditate often.

How often should you do meditation? Well, there’s no perfect answer to this question. But meditating at least 5 minutes daily can be beneficial and rewarding.
