Many people find it hard to reduce stress. But the truth is, pampering yourself does not cost you money. It takes one word, RELAX.

Disconnect yourself from the things that stressed you out. The following techniques can help you to relieve stress fast.

1. Meditate

Meditation is one of the best ways to zap stress. Robbie Maller Hartman, a psychologist, and wellness coach echoed the positive impact of meditation on the mind. “Research suggests that daily meditation may alter the brain’s neural pathways, making you more resilient to stress,” said Hartman.

Find a silent and comfortable place. Sit up straight with your feet on the floor. Close your eyes and feel the sensation from your toes up to your head. Feel the air coming in or out from your nose. This exercise will allow your mind to untangle from your worries. Because during this process, the mind will only focus on the sensations in your body and not on the negative thoughts.

2. Take a deep breath

Close your eyes, put your hands on your belly, and take a deep breath for about 5 minutes. Doing this simple activity is one of the easiest ways to relieve stress fast. What makes this technique effective? Psychologist, Judith Tutin explains; “Deep breathing counters the effects of stress by slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure.”

3. Be aware of the present

Tune your mind in the present. One of the reasons why you become stressed is negative thoughts. Your mind flies and runs on autopilot. Then you begin worrying about many things that you shouldn’t worry about.

By focusing on the present you’ll feel more relaxed. “Take 5 minutes and focus on only one behavior with awareness,” Tutin suggests. If you are eating, enjoy the taste of the food. Don’t rush. Just feel your present experience.

4. Talk to others

Your social connection can do a lot to lessen your stress. Reach out. Talk to others. Talk to your friends online. Share your experience. Doing this allows you to unload your emotional burden. Above all, you’ll get the benefit of acquiring positive views of others that could help you get through the challenge.

5. Laugh out loud

Laughter is still the best medicine. Laughing lowers the cortisol level, the stress hormone in your body. Which, in turn, increases the endorphins, a brain chemical that is responsible for producing a good mood. Watch your favorite funny TV shows or movies that can make you smile or laugh.

6. Listen to music

Studies found that listening to songs or nature sounds such as an ocean, birds singing, and other instrumental melodies can relieve stress fast. Just create a playlist of relaxing songs and play it when you are stressed.

7. Be active

Exercise. Even a few minutes of jogging can be helpful. You don’t need to be a professional runner. It’s not a competition. All you need is to get your body mobilized. If you don’t like running, just walk. These simple physical activities are enough to help refresh your brain.

 8. Keep an attitude journal

Every day, make a habit of writing the things that make you happy. Enumerate the things that you feel grateful for. Write them in your journal. “Being grateful for your blessings cancels out negative thoughts and worries,” says Joni Emmerling, a wellness coach.
