Although stress seems to be a normal phenomenon, it has a negative impact on our health in the long run. Thus, one’s immediate response would be to consider quick relief. If you are reading this article, it means that you are looking for quick ways to reduce stress.

Although there are many techniques to relieve stress, some of them are not free. So how can you free your mind from stress without spending a dime?

If you feel so stressed, you can apply progressive relaxation. This technique involves tensing all the muscles of your body and then release them. This is the quickest way to relax. And once your body is in its relaxed, your mind will follow through.

2. Yoga.

Another simple way to relieve stress is practicing simple yoga. Deep breathing techniques and body poses are powerful enough to reduce stress.

3. Meditation.

If you don’t know where to go or what to do to ease your stressed mind, why not find a silent place? Yes, that’s simple. Find a silent place to meditate. It could be in your room, garage, or in your ornamental garden. The important thing is for you to be able to focus your attention inward.

Meditation has numerous positive impact in your health. Studies had already proven that meditation is one of the most effective stress relievers.

4. Deep breathing.

Taking a deep breath is another way to quickly reduce stress. When you take a deep breath, your cortisol (a chemical in the brain) level lowers down. This chemical is associated with anxiety and stress. In addition, deep breathing lowers blood pressure.

5. Listening to music.

Music is a powerful way to relieve stress. If you feel suffocated by your problems, turn on your gadget. Play a soothing music. Studies had found that music is one of the effective and quick stress relievers.

6. Laughing.

Laughter is still the best medicine. Laughing reduces the level of stress. Believe it or not, when you laugh, you’ll be feeling good.

7. Practicing daily exercise.

Over and over again, studies find the usefulness of daily exercise. It does not only reduce stress, it also boosts overall physical health.

8. Gum chewing.

When you chew a gum, it reduces the level of cortisol in your brain. This chemical is associated with stress. Thus, reducing its level lowers your possibility of becoming stressed.

9. Taking a nap.

Taking a short nap is enough to calm your mind. Studies had found that napping reduces the cortisol level which leads to stress alleviation.

10. Walking with your dog.

Hanging with your pet is one of the best free stress relievers. Psychological studies found that pets can make their owners happy.

11. Engaging in your hobby.

If you feel that the world pushes you beyond your limit, give yourself a break. Do the things you are happy doing. Revisit your hobbies. Studies found that art therapy can help relieve stress.

12. Writing a daily journal.

Journaling is another good way to relieve stress. More than that, journaling helps you gain more focus on your goals. Writing a journal allows you to monitor what you have done and what you need to do.

13. Talking to others.

If you don’t like writing your daily experiences, why not talk about them. Social interaction is another effective stress reliever.  In fact, the bigger circle of friends you have, the happier you can be.

14. Walking.

Walking is the simplest way of exercise. A 30-minute walk a day will significantly help you remain healthy (both psychologically and physically). Studies found that people who walk regularly were happier than those who do not engage in any form of physical activity.
