Do you want to become a genius?
If you’re reading this article chances are you want to become smart. Obviously, almost all people want to be highly intelligent. Unfortunately, many have believed that only a few people have acquired such prestige. No wonder people would think that intelligence is a genetically determined rather than environmentally shaped.
The nature of human intelligence has been the subject of debates for decades. Most of the subscribed belief was that intelligence is determined by the score obtained in an intelligence test.
The problem with this assumption is that intelligence is not really a construct that can be confined solely to a single ability. In fact, Howard Gardner argued that there are several types of intelligence. Therefore there are different types of geniuses.
According to Gardner, there are eight types of intelligence. Gardner’s theory “Multiple Intelligence” clearly demonstrates the fluidity of intelligence. In other words, anyone can be a genius in any field or at anything.
Many students might have been struggling in their school grades. As a result, they feel inferior to those who are good in academics. This problem stems from the same belief that academic performance is the only indicator of being a genius.
The more appropriate way of thinking is, intelligence is not and cannot be measured only by academic grades. Instead, intelligence is a gift that every one of us possesses.
Needless to say, we are all intelligent in our own way. We are genius in our field of expertise. So if you’re asking how to become a genius, you’re asking the wrong question.
The best question you should ask is how to unleash your genius.
To do that, let me help you realize the way of becoming a genius.
The genius mind
One of the fascinating theories on academic success (or in life in general) is the Mindset Theory of Carol Dweck a professor at Stanford University. In her theory, Carol defines success as the result of a proper mindset.
According to her, people (students) have two kinds of mindsets. Some have fixed and the other has a growth mindset.
The difference between the two is huge. For example, students who have a fixed mindset are always thinking that their scholastic ability is fixed. Therefore there’s nothing they can do about their academic performance. Poor grades will always be poor.
These students according to Dweck, may view that success is a direct result of talent and intelligence without the effort required. This creates a problem because these students may subscribe to the idea that their mental ability is predetermined – so their lives.
On the other hand, students (people) who have a growth mindset think that they can do virtually anything. These students are more open to learning and new experiences. They believe that talents and geniuses can be developed. As a result, these students excel in their scholastic endeavor.
Why is the mindset very important to becoming a genius?
It’s simple. To become a genius you need to have the right mindset. You need to seclude yourself from the societal norm. Think differently. Remember that you are already a genius. All you need to do now is to free that better person in you. Unleash that genius individual in you by setting a right thinking.
To become a genius, one should realize that talent or intelligence is not fixed. Rather, intelligence is malleable that can be reshaped and developed to towards maximum utility. So if you are a student who got an average IQ, don’t worry intelligence tests results are not the perfect reflection of your true capability.
Becoming a genius
Needless to say that becoming a genius starts from within. It starts with setting a correct pattern of thinking – a growth mindset.
However, if you are a student or a person who desperately wants to become smarter, here are some of the tasks that can enhance your mental ability and make everything easier for you:
Be an open minded
Genius people are open-minded. They are open to suggestions and criticisms. Do you think that Albert Einstein immediately succeeded in convincing the world about relativity at the first time? Definitely not. Without an open mind, no one has become a genius.
In addition, the beginning step of becoming a genius is welcoming different ideas from different people whether you like them or not. Be open to new information. Broaden your mind by taking criticisms objectively rather than personally.
One of the most important components in attaining success is motivation. Fortunately, there are numerous genius people in history you can learn from. Real life stories of great people who helped innovate the world. Learn from their mistakes and successes.
Motivation is the only way to keep you going. Whatever you want to accomplish (including becoming a genius one) you need the motivation to fuel you along the way.
One of the greatest inventors said: “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Thomas Edison
One of the fascinating characteristics of genius people is being observant. Genius people are accustomed to observing everything that happens around them. As a result, they notice obvious opportunities that their counterparts do not.
Life’s undertakings are hard. Every successful person knows this. Becoming a genius is much harder than accomplishing anything else. You’ve got to be resilient enough. Being resilient means pursuing something even in times when winning is virtually impossible.
A journey to become a genius takes time. It’s a development process. But if you really want it, you’ve got to sacrifice.
“Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” Thomas Edison
Take home points:
To become a genius, you need to figure out the things that you love doing, things you are good at, and things that can have a great contribution to your society. Intelligent people pursue these three important things in their lives.
