What is the ultimate key to happiness?
When you’re stressed out at work, or at something, your well-being is shaken. At this state, your mind is preoccupied with so many things.
But no matter how bad the situation is, there’s always a place for happiness. And there’s always a reason to be happy.
If you reach your breaking point, it would be easy to get frustrated. It would be easy to throw a towel and surrender.
However, quitting or to succumb to your stress will not make you feel better. It will only make things worse.
So what can you do to fix your emotional turmoil?
In this post, I will share with you five easy and free steps to attain happiness.
Let’s get into it.
1. Hang out with your loved ones
There’s no better place than home. This is because your loved ones are the people who will be able to understand your feelings and experiences. The people you meet along the way will be gone. But your parents, your siblings, and significant others will not leave you even in the darkest time of your life.
Your family is the best source of positivity. Your loved ones will be the first people who feel happy with your achievements. They are also the first people who will comfort you when you are down.
A simple dinner conversation will be enough to ease your negative feelings. So make time for your significant others.
2. Revisit your passion
When you were a child, there were things that you fell in love with. It could be a hobby, a sports game, etc. Those things really made you happy. But because your life is different now, you are forced to change. You left your childhood hobbies behind.
However, becoming a child again is a key to happiness. It will temporarily help you forget the things that cause your stress. Be creative. Make some art or sing your favorite songs. Studies found that singing increases happiness.
3. Change your negative thoughts
The biggest contributor to stress is not primarily the negative experience. It is the mind. The way you interpret your experience determines your feelings. Many times you become stressed out because of your unhealthy thinking pattern.
So if you feel stressed, it is important to assess your cognition. Reassess your thinking pattern. Is your thought generating negative imaginings? If so, then you need to change it.
The best thing to do it is focusing on the good things that you have rather than on your frustrations. Cultivating positive thoughts is the key to happiness.
4. Practice gratitude
Another quick way to happiness is being grateful. You may have bad experience right now. But you know what? It is not as bad as you think. The truth is, there are a lot of good things happened to you that you barely noticed every day.
Being grateful for the things you have will make you happy. Negative people fail to appreciate the good things that they possess. As a result, negativity clouds their mind.
Every day, find a simple thing which you are grateful for. It could be a small gift you received, a simple compliment, the air you breathe, or the water you drink every day.
Often times, small things tend to be forgotten. Why? Because they are common and simple. Happiness does not depend on the number of your possessions. It is how you value and grateful for them.
5. Love yourself
The ultimate key to happiness is self-compassion. But you can only accomplish it if you accept who you truly are. But I tell you this, loving yourself can be the hardest thing to do sometimes especially when you broke your own standard.
Coming short of your goal can hurt your well-being. What you can do instead is develop a compassion for yourself. Forget your own standard. Accept the reality that you cannot be perfect.
The more you learn to love yourself, the happier you’ll become. People with type-A behavior (people with a rigid standard for themselves) often suffer from heart disease and depression.
Forgive yourself for whatever shortcomings you commit. Life is so short. Enjoy and don’t waste it in a nonsense undertaking. Love yourself!
There is no perfect advice or single key to happiness. But if you practice the tips I discussed above, you’ll be able to develop joy and endless bliss.
I hope this will help. If you want to share your thoughts, don’t hesitate to leave your comment below.
